I found out yesterday that I was accepted to my top pick for graduate school! I will start in the fall. It’s an M.S. program in clinical mental health counseling.
I actually went to the same school for undergrad, mainly because I was interested in their master’s program and wanted to take bachelor’s level classes in the department to get a feel for it. I loved my experience and I’m honestly so happy to continue my education there. It’s the best program in my state and one of the top in the country for counseling.
I worked really, really hard to get here. I flunked out of college in my early 20s due to depression. Counseling helped me get out of that dark place and set me on a path to realizing this is what I want to do as a career, so this is a pretty massive full circle moment. I’ve been working for a nonprofit counseling clinic for the past two years, and it’s just solidified that this is where I need to be and what I’m meant to be doing.
I’m not sure what fall will look like in light of COVID restrictions, but I know the university is still enrolling online classes this summer. I’m lucky in that the school is nearby, so I’m not having to plan for a large move in the midst of Coronavirus.
Time for the next big step :)
