This isn't a call to arms, no need to get riled up. I posted in the #Gamergate article on the MP and am getting some interesting #notallgaters responses. It's a subject of interest to me, because I want to study the recent spree of threats and attacks against women in gaming as a form of gatekeeping for my Master's thesis.
I find the formation of this movement fascinating for many reasons - the appropriation of activist rhetoric, the self-conceptualization of gaters as somehow oppressed or misunderstood, the centrality of a gaming industry that is exclusionary towards women to their identities as gamers, the entitlement to dictate what gaming should look like for everyone.
Any active gamers on GT want to comment or discuss the MP article here (I don't recommend commenting on the article itself)? Have you all experienced gatekeeping in gaming?
