I was cleaning out my garage and I found these tiny planters that I remember from childhood. They are shaped like little animals and have holes in the top that are roughly an inch long and half an inch wide. There is no hole in the bottom to drain excess water, if that matters.

What should I plant in them?! I'd like to keep them on my desk which gets indirect sunlight only, but I could move them to windowsills or keep them on said windowsills. That is easy. Googling "small planters" and variations thereof got me mainly succulent suggestions; is that the best way to go?
