It felt great. He's actually a good guy, but he keeps calling people 'Nancy' and it gets under my skin. The first time I said, "Every Nancy I've ever known has been a complete badass." But today I snapped, "Can you quit it with the Nancy stuff?"
He wanted to know what he should say instead. I told him he could come up with something else himself as long as he wasn't using a woman's name to denote weakness. He said he would think about it. I said, "You do that."
Later I cracked a joke about it. He said it was harmless. I said that it was insidious and that he knew I was right (he totally did, even though he's the classic liberal white male that's still blind to a lot of privilege issues).
He did make sure that I know that he actually considers women to be the stronger sex.
Moral of the story: Don't hate on Nancy. Nancy is a badass and we wouldn't want it any other way.
