Awhile back I asked a couple open questions of The Hivemind regarding curly hair products. I would like to now report with my current regimen, which I like!
I'd like to first thank the academy (GT), and —
- DevaCurl No-Poo + DevaCurl One Conditioner
- Josie Maran Argon Oil
- DevaCurl Frizz-Free Volumizing Foam
- Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie ... buckets of this, BUCKETS
- Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Dry Oil Mist
Why yes, that is a lot of products. Such is the bane of naturally curly hair. But! I thought my success might be helpful to others. For reference, I have HIGHLY porous (naturally porous + dyed) mixed type 3 curls, plus as of a couple months ago I've stopped getting my hair "semi-straightened" at the salon with Brazilian Blowouts.
A quick PSA for the Brazilian Blowouts: I totally recommend them if you wear your hair straight (flat iron on the daily) as I did basically FOREVER, but know that they do kind of "build up" over time... or at least mine did? And for me, they didn't really save me that much time, because I could — sigh, can — never "wash and go" with my hair regardless. A BB made straightening my hair way faster and easier, but I couldn't just wear it "as is." There was still like a half hour of straightening involved (which is better than an hour and a half, but still...)
My hope is that I can rediscover my natural hair texture and I think I AM, finally, with the help of these products and not giving up or getting too annoyed with my hairs. Because despite what that one ex-boyfriend said way back in the day, I don't look better with straight hair, I look better with my hair.
