I don't know how old this is, but a friend of mine just posted it on Facebook. I personally, I don't think I would have gotten involved (unless I actually came across a cop in the park) no matter what the race of the thief (because I'm a wuss ETA: as a kid I learned that interrupting people who are stealing things usually gets you a swift punch in the mouth), however, I am completely unsurprised by the aggressive way people confront the black actor. Most of them probably don't think of themselves as racists, they probably see themselves as good samaritans trying to prevent a crime. In the absence of a similar situation involving a white thief, they probably comfort themselves by saying they would have tried to stop anyone they thought was trying to steal a bike—even if that's probably not true.
