Would you rather get a treadmill or an elliptical?
My mother bought a treadmill ages ago which is fine but not great. The actual tread part is unusually thin. It makes me think I’m going to accidentally put my foot down on the stationary part and bust my ass. My mom is uncomfortable because the arms don’t come out far enough for her to hold onto. She has a poor sense of balance so she needs to feel secure.
So we were talking about getting another treadmill when she mentioned getting an elliptical machine. She liked the one she used at the gym because she felt secure on it and it had handles. But she likes treadmills because she can just walk on it and you can’t really do that with an elliptical. Personally, I think that’s a good thing. It forces you to actually work out instead of slowly ambling along (sorry, Mom). But I like treadmills because I can run on them and I love running. Ellipticals are just...different. Better for my joints though, especially my knees. But no running. It’s pseudo-running.
So you can see the dilemma. Lots of pros and cons. Both types of machines are astonishingly affordable. I for sure thought they cost thousands of dollars but the last time we were looking at home gym equipment was like, 10/15 years ago. You can get a decent treadmill/elliptical machine for under $500 now.
