Morning GTers, I’ve noticed a lot of chatter here about instant pots and I haven’t paid any attention since I don’t have one and didn’t have a reason to get one. Now all of a sudden I do - I’m considering taking my wild mushroom obsession to the next level by starting to cultivate. (Some species there’s no hope for since they need complex tree root symbioses that are years in establishing, but others seem like a good way to make use of the shady part of the garden.) And for that, you need sterilization capability, which is usually accomplished at home using a pressure cooker. I don’t want to faff around with a stovetop one because I’m paranoid about setting off a bomb, and electric ones seem nice as a set-it-and-forget-it approach.
However, I don’t know fuckall about instant pots outside of the fact that they’re electric and ok for sterilizing mycelium substrate jars, and I’m hesitating on buying one because our kitchen space is limited enough as it is. So I thought I’d invite the cooking talents of GT to advise me on why they’re amazing and how much I need one for other purposes to justify one taking up space in my kitchen.
