Welcome To The Bitchery

International Tabletop Day! What are you playing? With bonus fundraiser info.

My boyfriend LOVES boardgames and frequently hosts game nights, so of course he’s having one tonight. He’s getting a little tired of some of the frequent flyers stiffing him on money to cover pizza and such, so I talked him into doing potluck this time, and we’ll see how that goes. I’m bringing mini chicken wonton tacos!

I like games ok, but not the 5+ hour long ones his group seems to prefer. I’d prefer Sushi Go! or One Night to another Arkham Horror Marathon. (Seriously, kill me now.) But he got a new game that he PROMISES I will love, and since its new, he’ll convince everyone to try it today. It’s The Red Dragon Inn.

You and your friends are a party of heroic, fantasy adventurers. You’ve raided the dungeon, killed the monsters, and taken their treasure. Now you’re back, and what better way to celebrate your most recent victory than to spend an evening at the Red Dragon Inn. You and your adventuring companions will spend the night drinking, gambling, and roughhousing. The last person who is both sober enough to remain conscious and shrewd enough to hold onto his Gold Coins wins the game.

As he was trying to convince me that I will actually like this game, he dropped this gem on me:

the warrior character is a girl whose power is that drinks dont make her more drunk they make her more mighty

If you’re not playing today, you might also be interested that the DC Abortion Fund is hosting their annual fundraiser Game-a-thon today! (I asked, and as its their first year doing games, they had no idea about tabletop day or that they picked the exact day.) Apparently all the other funds do bowling, hence the bowling theme on the page, but they couldn’t find a suitable bowling alley in DC that wasn’t crazy expensive, so board games it is! You can donate on their website here. I’m going to try to talk the boyfriend into putting together a team to fundraise for them next year. Unfortunately, he had already invited people this year and didn’t want to cancel.
