My friend just posted The Food Lab's Guide to Corned Beef and I'm already hungry for dinner! Anybody else making corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, onions, and carrots tonight? OM nom nom nom nom...Corned beef is so salty and spendy that we really only buy it a couple of times a year and I'm looking forward to it tonight. I like to put it on top of all the veggies so all the delicious fats and salts make the veggies bad for me too.

This is a cool article - I did know that this is more of an Irish-American tradition than anything else. Irish in the 17th and 18th centuries couldn't afford to eat beef - they mostly ate bacon and ham . Bacon and ham are also nommy but most likely were not prepared and served in the Jewish butcher shops and restaurants that were close to the Irish immigrant neighborhoods.


Green beer is gross though.
