I've got the re-run of the Emmys on right now, because there's nothing else on, and so I'm being subjected to all the commercials a second time through. And I've realized ... commercials for The Talk really annoy me. And because I've had to see them multiple times tonight, I think I've managed to put my finger on the problem. It seems that they often end up using Sheryl Underwood (I actually had to look her up to find out her name) as a buffoon-like character. Just look at the promo in that link. It's just insulting to one's intelligence to watch if you see it more than once. How is that supposed to make me want to watch that show?
Why do women allow themselves to play that role? And why do other women (since that's a whole show full of women) place them in that role? I just ... can't.
