I watched "Don Jon" last night, and I really enjoyed it. But I don't know why the premise that was promoted was so focused on Scarlett Johansson or why her character supposedly inspired Joseph Gordon Levitt's character's transformation. Julianne Moore was amazing, as she always is. Far more than ScarJo's shallow girl looking for the "right guy" who checks all the boxes, JuMo's character was the curious, compassionate "teacher."

JuMo (I'm calling her that now—it is a term of endearment) and JGL have one of the most gorgeous sex scenes I've ever watched, and it got me thinking about how she is really amazing at portraying honest, human sex in movies. Off the top of my head, there's "Boogie Nights" (which I almost just typed as "Boobie Nights," lol), "Chloe," and "The Kids Are Alright." She's played straight sex, gay sex, conflicted sex, long-term-relationship sex, and casual sex, and she is just amazing at both making it hot and keeping it connected with the overall character. Maybe I'm just having a hard time getting over how lovely she was in "Don Jon," but I can't say I can think of other actors who pull it off the way she does. Maybe she's better at choosing roles where the sex and character are written well. Maybe she's able to turn what would be run-of-the-mill "look at her body/the sex" scenes into opportunities to speak to the audience in a visceral way. I don't know.

Note: This is the second GT post I've done in which I profess love for an actor from "The Big Lebowski" and feature a gif from that move. That's because it fucking rules too.
