Last night, there was a fire near the trash cans in my apartment complex. Fortunately, no one was hurt and there was no property damage...except to the wall of meters that control our gas and electric. So I slept on a friend's couch last night and am spending the night in a hotel tonight. I'm trying to pretend like this is a pre-wedding getaway, because I'm also getting married next week(!). But it could be a lot worse, and I can't help but laugh at the irony that the day my classroom lights finally get fixed (7 months late, because my district doesn't care if kids can't see) is the same day my home lights go kaputz.

Calling all lawyers (and Law & Order fans): Per the building manager, the company owner has promised to reimburse us for "all financial aspects of the situation", including what's in the fridge, lodging, food, etc. Are there any tenant rights I need to know about should he try to back out? (I live in a pretty big building, so I can already tell this is going to be an expensive fix.)
