About a week ago, I was in my favorite used bookstore/coffeeshop, sadly contemplating the lack of decent SF books, and came across Broken Monsters, published in 2014 by Lauren Beukes.
I bought it based on the blurbs, in the hope of discovering a new author.
It’s not so much SF as horror story, and the kind that you can’t put down and that leaves you totally exhausted.
It’s set in present-day Detroit, and has a lot to say about a lot of things. I’ve been totally submerged in it since I started reading it late Friday, and just finished it now.
Highly recommended for those who can deal with it. As another author put it in another context, “Fun for some, not for all.”
