This probably isn't very PC, but I don't care...
I've got what I suspect is a slightly above-average intelligence dog (he has flashes of brilliance that make me think that he is generally not working up to his potential in his day-to-day life as a handsome doofus) and an almost-two-year-old kid. Tonight, for the first time, I realized that my little boy has undisputably passed the dog in cognitive function.* That is a milestone worth celebrating!
My family wasn't too pleased when I suggested that the dog was smarter than the baby back when the dog was clearly smarter than the baby (i.e., when the baby was basically a crying, peeing, pooping, eating lump), so it is really nice to realize we've moved past that stage. Frankly, I feel a sense of accomplishment for keeping the kid alive and unscathed this long.
*Because I was looking for my phone and I know the kid would have either indicated that he didn't know where it was or showed me if he did know, while the dog just stood there like an idiot, because yes, I asked my dog if he knew where my phone was.
