Here's a reshare of a post I made early early this morning. The lunar eclipse was way cool!
I saw it. And I took some pictures! The color change once the Earth's shadow cuts enough of the glare from the sun is very sudden and very striking. I used my telescope and a cheap digital camera, manually holding it up against the lowest power eyepiece.
The telescope was good for taking pictures, but the eclipse was best appreciated with the naked eye. I really enjoyed sitting back and getting a look at a different sort of night sky than the one I'm used to. The stars are pretty much unchanging, though there's new stuff popping off all the time if you look hard and long enough. Rather than suffer all the usual squinting and crouching for one faint, fuzzy glimmer, it was a treat to suddenly have an alien world appear in plain sight.
