Hello GT. I am abusing my shiny new privileges by whining about statistics.

TW: cancer

My youngersib has treatable, but not curable breast cancer, which has sent me off on a flurry of tests. Mammogram was clear - yay.

However, today I met with the genetic counselor. Depending on which prediction model you use I have a 20 to 55% chance of developing breast cancer in my lifetime. And a 1-10% chance in the next 5 years.

aka - you are in for a lot more regular screenings. I am trying not to panic. I need to wait for any genetic test results from sibling, and then we can decide which tests to run for me. I am still a lot gobsmacked though.

Anyone else deal with something similar and have advice?
