Making dresses - where to start??

Hello hive mind,

I have a bit of time on my hands at the moment, and I've been looking around for information on how to get started on making clothes. I'm only really interested in dresses or skirts to be honest.

I've had a look online, but haven't really found anything particularly useful - does anyone have any recommendations? My starting point is pretty much zilch. We did sewing at school (a life time ago), so I can vaguely remember what a bobbin is, but that's pretty much it.

Is this the kind of thing that one can pick up quite quickly, or does it takes years or sewing before you can make anything you could actually wear out?

Ideally I'd be looking to make a few tea dresses, or skirts (something like below for the skirts but in a different fabric).

The problem is starting from where I am, it's difficult for me to know whether something like those are actually insanely complicated. I also know fuck all about fabrics, and what you should use for what. I mean, obviously I'm not going to try and make a skirt out of pure silk when I have no idea how to make a lining, and sewing with leather is out of the question...but aside from that.

So yeah, basically any advice, or websites, or helpful info would be super appreciated!
