As much as it sucks, knowing someone important is my best hope at getting a job right now.
My dad's friend got my latest resume from Mom so he can call the head of the office back and talk up all my education/internships. So the boss who I want to hire me has made contact with my connection, and I've done the preliminary interview. This friend of Dad's founded the office and his brother is a judge in the same town. Please please please. I can't even imagine making more money, driving less, and getting away from my nutso gaslighting boss.
The phone interviewer's concern was that I was overqualified, but I don't feel like I've gotten the training and mentoring I need to stick with this career long-term and I could get it at this place. I conveyed that to her diplomatically, without bashing my boss. I'm still a young attorney and really not overqualified for much so I hope they realize that and don't hire an intern from within - which so often happens.
