Manic pixie dream girl starts a "preschool for adults"

Did you miss out on the paste-eating, finger painting days of preschool? Well, this pair of women in Brooklyn (because of course Brooklyn) have the perfect thing for you! For $399 to $999, you can go back to preschool!

NYC's The Village Voice brings us the delightful tale of two Brooklyn hipsters that want adults to shell out hundreds of dollars to go back to preschool. Michelle Joni Lapidos (described as "pretty, with red hair and an incessant desire to play") is a hipster whose past exploits include starting a Brooklyn "skipping club". She says she wants to find a new way for adults to get back in touch with their inner child.

"Adults are in this routine, this stagnation, and by tapping into the 'play' part of our brains by skipping or doing the things that we did in preschool, we're bringing ourselves back to another place, another time with ourselves, maybe when we were more believing of ourselves, when we were more confident and ready to take on the world. And I want to nourish that in people," Lapidos says.

As a student in the Preschool Mastermind program, you will take part in finger painting, snack time, show and tell, and nap time. There's even a class picture day.

To make this somehow oddly legit, Lapidos has brought on her friend who has a masters degree in teaching and taught preschool overseas for several years. Candice Kilpatrick is well versed in child development and thinks the idea has merit for adults.

Adults can relearn and master things that they failed to understand as children, Kilpatrick explains, offering the example of "bilateral integration skills" (being able to fluidly perform tasks with both sides of your body simultaneously). She cites an activity from one of her preschool classes wherein kids had to master drawing the figure "8" with both hands and in such a way that the center of the numeral crossed the middle of the page.

"The children who [couldn't] do that [had] poor reading skills and difficulty coordinating growth motor patterns," Kilpatrick reveals.

While this is an incredibly zany idea, the Voice quoted the scientific director of Imagination Institute at the University of Pennsylvania who says the adult preschool may be a sound idea that might foster greater creativity and give people a new perspective. So who knows?

The preschool is held in Lapidos's home office in, where else, Park Slope. Deadline to enroll is February 19th so get those applications in! Finger paint your way to a whole new you!
