CW: lots of numbers on calories, weight, etc.
DeweyDoesDecimals’s comment here got me thinking, especially the part where they say:
So my question really is twofold: a) has anyone ever successfully lost weight while on SSRIs and have any advice? b) can anyone point me to websites or resources that advocate body positivity? I’m really struggling and would ideally like BOTH to lose weight AND accept my body, but it’s been really, really hard.
I personally gained over 40 pounds over a few years on my mood stabilizers, which is no joke because I am 5'2" and I started out quite slim. I’m walking about 3 miles a day (office job) but have intense weightlifting workouts 2-3 times a week and I’m eating about 1300 calories a day under a registered dietitian’s supervision—that is apparently the correct amount for my body weight/height and metabolic stuff. My metabolism SUCKS based on all the precise calculations she’s done. Some age, but mostly we think the meds because my blood work is normal.
I have managed to lose about 7-8 pounds since... February. Just over a pound a month. This is so discouraging. I’ve been losing a little faster since I started seeing the dietitian (3 pounds in 6ish weeks) but I have no idea if this is a fluke and if it’s going to stay off or what.
So, my question is the same—has anyone managed long-term weight loss on SSRIs/mood stabilizers? And even if I do manage to lose some weight, how can I accept my body as it is right now and as it continues to change?
