So last week, the Pope said that the church was too obsessed with abortions and gay marriage and needed to focus the conversation on being more inclusive. This made a lot of people hopeful that Pope Francis might be putting the church on a more progressive path. Then he backtracked to emphasize that he still wants people following the rules. He just doesn't want people talking about them so much.
Well this week the Pope has continued to crush the hopes that he might be more progressive by excommunicating an Australian priest over his support for gay people and the ordination of women.
