More publications are following in Slate's footsteps to stop using the team's official name. Mother Jones and The New Republic both announced that they will also refuse to use the name "The Redskins" when discussing the team. Slate isn't first publication in protest of the name. Last year, The Washington City Paper voted on a new name to call the team in the paper - the readers chose "The Washington Pigskins" -, The Kansas City Star, and several sports writers from the Philly and Buffalo area also doesn't run the name.
