I just saw The Way, Way Back and found it surprisingly sad and yet kind of formulaic. It might as well have been called Coming Of Age Film. There were some good people in it - Steve Carrell, Toni Colette, Allison Janney, Rob Corddry, Amanda Peet - but for the most part it was just dreary.
However, Sam Rockwell was fantastic. His character was a total archetype - Falstaff by way of Bill Murray - but he put his all into it (and of course he dances at one point). He's not the only good thing in the movie - Maya Rudolph has some great moments - but he definitely saves it.
