You guys, I think I have a new composer to add to my favorites list! Somehow I made it this far in my life without knowing the music of Bohuslav Martinů, but that has been remedied. I heard a concert version of Ariane and saw an impressive full production of The Greek Passion in a single week, and now I’ve got all these non-opera things to listen to also! 6 symphonies, 15 ballets, and a whole bunch of concerti and chamber music as well as more operas.
I’m pretty sure I have heard at least some of the instrumental bits of Ariane on the radio previously without knowing what I was listening to, and now I know.
