I have dedicated my summer to rediscovering my love of reading. I'm going to read as much as I can. I have a list of books and I've started with Lucy, by Jamaica Kincaid, because I love Girl so much and I think her style is just incredible. And here's the Thank You to GT: I know that there are elements to the book and its story and meaning that I will not understand, that I cannot understand. If I had read Lucy before I found GT, I would have glossed over the elements of privilege in the story, or at least they wouldn't have made as much impact. Even though I can't understand what it is to be on the other side of that privilege (because my life is much closer to Mariah's than to Lucy's), I can recognize it. I can think about it. I can take in what the author says and listen and try to learn and understand, knowing full well that I never will, and I can think about the privilege structures in my own life. And that has come, almost exclusively, from interactions here on GT.

So, if I may ask another thing of you, GT, share with me your favorite books! Be they academic or fiction or classics or "chick lit" I want them all!
