The Dominion Institute released a new history minute today focusing on Indian Residental Schools. It tells the story of Chanie Wenjack, a boy who died after attempting to run home from Residential School in 1966.
A year later Chanie’s story was told in an article in McCleans Magazine, bringing the issue of abuse at the Residental schools to wider public attention.
Wenjack theatre, the largest lecture hall at Trent University where I did my first degree is named after Chanie.
I just discovered that there is a second one about treaties:
