New Marvel Shows Will Include Jessica Jones Show!

First, let me take a deep breath. Second.... AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Today Netflix announced that they have made a deal with Marvel to produce four original shows featuring Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones. The four series will lead up to a mini-series where all four stories come together as The Defenders.

Nerdist reports:

The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix Inc. today announced an unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel’s most popular characters exclusively to the world’s leading Internet TV Network beginning in 2015. This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs leading to a miniseries programming event.

Led by a series focused on Daredevil followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel’s The Defenders mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

This is so exciting. For those of you who don't know about Jessica Jones, she is one of my favorite ladies in the Marvel universe and her series Alias was not only one of Marvel's best female-led books, but just one of Marvel's best books ever. I always thought she would make a great character for television and now she's finally getting the chance. Hopefully, this also means that Marvel will put Alias back in print so those of you who haven't read it can.

I'm not just excited about Jessica, but about all of these characters. I love a good Daredevil story, and I'm hoping that the Luke Cage and Iron Fist stuff will lead into some awesome Heroes for Hire stuff (what I hoped Marvel was doing when they originally announced they were doing TV). Let's also not forget that all of this means that Marvel is focusing on shows that star a disabled hero, a black man, and a woman. I can't wait to see Luke, Jessica, and Danny get the love of the non-comic book fans!

So far, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage have all appeared in various animated Marvel shows, but this will be the first time that Jessica has ever left the comic book page. I can't wait to see her! Sadly, we'll have to wait until 2015 for this project to start airing but I bet it'll be worth the wait.
