As I've posted about before, I had weight loss surgery about three weeks ago. Between that and the two week pre-op liquid diet I was on, I've already lost about 40 pounds since January 1. I made the decision not to discuss my WLS at work, however, thinking about it realistically, I realize they are going to notice, comment, and probably ask about it. They aren't bad people but I have gotten super burned by confusing collegiality with friendship. This is especially the case with the department secretary, who acted like we were friends but who then basically ruined my life while my mother was dying of cancer. I won't get into the specifics but she is nosy and a gossip and I've tried really hard to avoid personal conversations with her in the last few years, to the point that I try not to go into the department office when she is there (she leaves at 3 PM). What are polite, friendly, noncommittal but honest ways to answer this kind of inquiry from work colleagues??
