A report by the CBC has brought to light horrible inadequacies in the ability of the Province of Nova Scotia to collect rape kit evidence. The entire province only has two teams that specialize in collecting the evidence. In theory, emergency room personnel are supposed to collect the kits, but in practice, ER doctors say they have not been trained and are uncomfortable being asked to collect the evidence.
In the case of the woman whom I mentioned in headline, she went to two different hospitals were staff said they could not help her. The rape kit was finally done by one of the specialized teams after they travelled to her area to collect it.
