Two months ago, a very intimidating professor in my department recommended I apply for the NSF Graduate Fellowship and I, not particularly wanting to do it but being terrified of this professor, agreed to do it. Then two weeks ago, I realized there was no way in hell I was going to survive my midterms if I had to do this stupid application, so I emailed intimidating professor, and all of my letter writers, and said, "Sorry, I'm not going to be able to do it this year." Great, I didn't have to think about it.

Yesterday, another professor emailed me (and intimidating professor and the department head), saying, nope, actually you should totally still apply for it. THE DEADLINE IS THURSDAY.

So now I'm going to write a research proposal and personal statement in two days, and try to convince my letter writers to write me a letter after all (which is due a week later). This should be fun.
