Lo, weight talk after the jump!
I am in the process of trying to become a healthier person, as many of you might know. I saw a Registered Dietician a little over a week ago and thought I'd just keep y'all posted on how it's going.
It is really strange to try to lose weight correctly. I don't feel particularly deprived, agitated, hungry, angry, anything - which makes me think this is going to be unsuccessful.
No, Lover! That's not how it works! Cast out these thoughts!
Besides trying to calm the nasty voices, things are going well. The biggest shock is just cooking and eating regular meals throughout a regular day, like a full-blown adult. I tend to be a meal-skipper, so, as the RD warned, I feel like I'm eating a shitload of food.
I love cooking, so it's been therapeutic, actually, to force myself to take that time to take care of myself. It's mostly just cut into some of my lazy time. "Recipes" of note (I don't use recipes):
—turkey breasts, marinated in white wine, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce; rubbed down with paprika, cayenne, garlic, salt & pepper, and a little olive oil - and roasted. I've been eating this on salads and sandwiches
—avocado spread - I have to have a set amount of fat so I've been mashing avocadoes with some chopped up red peppers, a little bit of mustard, lots of lemon juice. Today I needed more fat because I forgot it at breakfast, so I threw a little of God's Condiment (mayonnaise) in. Spreading it on sandwiches, or mixing it into salad dressing. Mmmm.
—I made little frittatas in a muffin pan that contain a set serving of egg, cheese, and then veggies (which I don't really have to measure) so that I can keep track when I'm groggy in the morning. Great success.
—I made two soups that are "free" foods, basically - just full of a fuckton of veggies. I wanted to have something to go to if I was hungry when I'd already eaten what I was supposed to. I also need efficient ways to get all my veggie servings. I made one soup that's basically chicken broth, onion, garlic, carrot, celery, lime juice and kale. I made another superior soup, that is basically just onion, a shitload of zucchini, and chicken broth - pureed like a motherfucker. Like, seriously pureed.
—Tonight, I ate gnocchi, a whole bunch of spinach and mustard greens, red peppers, homemade pesto, and fresh mozzarella. I realized, after the fact, that I may have mismeasured the gnocchi and eaten too much. Oh well.
—Tomorrow, shrimp and wild rice and veggies are on the dinner menu, and I'll be eating a steak salad (leftover from another day) for lunch.
That's not everything, but this isn't Instagram, so you don't need to know everything I've eaten. Happy Fooding!
