Canadian women are going to get a special bonus this Canada Day: tampons, pads et al will no longer be charged GST/HST as of July first.

It’s about damn time, especially since period supplies were deemed non-essential but music lessons are (thus not taxed), for some reason. It is kind of surprising the Tories did this so fast, but with the NDP and Liberals fully backing it and an election coming up, I guess they’re hoping to hold it up as proof they’re a woman-friendly government or something.

Still, any reduction of the Woman’s Tax is a good thing.
