I always liked Melissa Manchester and loved Don’t Cry Out Loud a tender song about a woman singing about herself and mistakes she made and how she needs to be stronger and to remember she almost made. I always interpreted the song to be about herself and not another person.
Manchester’s version is tender and melancholy. A true beautiful tenderness in deliverery.
Shirley Bassey a jazzier version but more upbeat. She emphasises that she always made it more then Manchester’s version. I prefer Bassey’s version because its more story like in delivery. Both truly talented singers. Bassey has more varied songs and styles. Manchester has one of the most tender voices around.
Your prefer which version? I do have song interpretation correct?
