I passed my exam for PhD candidacy in the spring but my advisor initiated a talk about how I'm much happier when I talk about science ed, teaching, outreach, etc., than about anything to do with my research and so I should think about what I really want to do and if going through another 3-4 years of the program would really be worth it.
Over the summer I decided it wasn't and that I wanted to finish that semester. The time from meeting my committee to go over the plan to defending the thesis was exactly 2 months. (one reason I haven't been around much or at all lately)
Haven't heard back from my next move yet but hope to soon...and I've got revisions to do and a TA position until December anyway so that's not something to worry about tonight. Off to celebrate! :)
