I am not a big fan of the Everly Brothers yet something about Phil's death saddens me. I keep thinking he was 74, after their peak came Simon and Garfunkel after them Hall and Oates. Except for Air Supply I cannot think of any big male duos after them, at least in pop. From S&G to Air Supply (I think they were a duo) they would be in their 60s down to mid to late 50s. I remember in HS circa 1983 my friend used to blast his Simon and Garfunkel cassette in his car, and we would sing Mrs Robinson at the top of our lungs then Sounds of Silence. God that was dumb and dangerous.
Maybe I am sad also how time is passing. I remember always hearing the Everly Brothers on the radio in the 70s. They were not even considered oldies in the 70s but not "hippie music" either. Now their music with S&G and probably also Hall and Oates are probably considered Oldies music.
