OK, it’s probably not. But I’ve been re-reading Dhalgren recently, and it just feels like it fits. It’s a book you really ought to read, but that will almost certainly (and in many cases, should) offend most readers in one way or another. But it fits.
What else fits? Books, music, movies? I like to describe our current situation as a slow-motion apocalypse (also a great band name, by the way) because it doesn’t fit the BOOM! Apocalypse! narrative that I’d lived with for so long before COVID. No nukes or meteors falling from the sky. The oceans are rising, but I live on high ground. London isn’t calling.
So—can we put together a media list for the slow-motion end of life as we know it?
