Why are they so annoying?

There is a certain agency (that deals with tech) in NYC that I was supposed to meet with late this afternoon. As I was talking to them on the phone last week, I realized (unfortunately I realized too late!) that this is the same agency that my boyfriend once used, that made him come to the office and then sprung an interview with the job's hiring manager on him. Then the recruiter kept coming in to the interview being like, "there are other candidates waiting." And apparently they work in teams, yet compete against one another. I don't have the energy for that.

The job seems like it would be a great step up and more of what I want to do, but the description said they wanted someone with 5 years of experience which, I'm like 3 years shy of. So I also don't want to waste my time. Part of me wants to message the hiring manager on Linkedin—but I also don't want to be hunted down by deranged job recruiters. I emailed her letting her know I couldn't come in today and now she wants to talk on the phone. It's like Christ, take a hint! And she just called me. waaaaah.

Why can't they just set up a friggin short phone interview like most other normal places do?
