Blues legend Tabby Thomas died today at age 84, just short of his birthday. He was one of the more famous "swamp blues" musicians, and he owned a famous seedy blues club in Baton Rouge, that he frequented despite his fame. He is also the father of blues musician Chris Thomas King.

He was a graduate of McKinley High School, the first black high school in Baton Rouge and if I recall correctly, second in Louisiana. Other graduates of this school include sculptor Emerson Bell and me. They started letting white people go there eventually, but only because the courts said they had to.

Have some more Tabby Thomas, lovelies!
