So, I got talked into running a 5k to benefit pancreatic cancer research. It will be in PDX on September 24th. I could walk it, but I got it in my head to actually seriously run it. The one-year anniversary of my dad’s death from pancreatic cancer will be June 13th (that’s shocking), and I really think this will help me sort of get through this time.
I am not a runner, but I’d like to become one. I walk a LOT, I bounce on a mini-trampoline a few times a week, but if I were to be approached by a herd of zombies right now I would do better to stand and fight rather than to try to run away.
Any tips on how to train for this? Useful apps? Things to buy? I’ll do research as well, but I wanted you guys to have a first crack at it.
ETA: Also, good places to run in the Bay Area? I’ll be running the race in Portland, but training in SF.
Thanks for the tips! I just completed the first workout in the Couch to 5k app and:
1. I think this will help a lot.
2. I feel like death and I hate everything/everyone.
