Well this is interesting. I have two sons and I'm sad to say that, as things stand now, we won't be allowing them to join the Boy Scouts because of the national organization's discrimination against gay men. My brother was a scout when we were kids and I have fond memories of events that families were allowed to participate in, especially because there were no girl scout troops in our area. But the New York Times is reporting (behind a paywall after a few free articles per month) that the Greater New York Councils have hired an openly gay man to work at a camp this summer. I'm glad to hear the people are pushing back against the national organization's bigotry. Hopefully by the time my boys are old enough their policy forbidding this young man's hiring will be gone. In the meantime, I wonder how they will respond to this move in New York?
