Quite a lot has been written over the controversy surrounding the Nina Simone biopic, and much of it has been wonderful and informative. This article, though, just hit me with an especial clarity; I am white, and so do not viscerally understand what Ms. Simone meant to so many Black women, but the way this is written somehow conveys it to me as well as it might ever be. She should have her story told in the way both she, and the millions who loved both her art and her very self as a Black woman like them, deserve.
