What is snark and why do we love it so much, I wonder? It seems to be a very popular method of communication with those we disagree with. Is that good thing? What does snark mean?
It's not a real word, so I had to go to Urban Dictionary:
Combination of "snide" and "remark". Sarcastic comment(s).
Also snarky (adj.) and snarkily (adv.) His commentary was rife with snark.
A combination of snide and remark. that makes sense. Well we all know what a remark is but what does snide mean? This time, a real dictionary will do:
adj. snider, snidest Derogatory in a malicious, superior way.
Oof. That sounds really awful. Derogatory? Malicious and superior? That sounds like the language of bullies. 'Snark' sounds like such a cute word. It's really not cute at all though. It sounds like it will probably make me look like a jerk if I use it too much. I do not like that. I should probably stop doing that and probably also stop applauding that kind of thing in others. Hmm. Something to think about.
