Squeak. That’s the sound of pulpo’s impossiby high expectations being exceeded.
What to say?
Leslie Odom Jr needs to win every Tony. All of them. Like, give him the ones for choreography and lighting design too and show me the person who would complain.
Jonathan Groff sure spits alot while he sings. Like, a hilarious amount. I guess that’s the price you have to pay for being Jonathan Groff.
Daveed Diggs is every bit as delightful a performer as you would want him to be.
I wasnt prepared for how moving I found Philippa’s parts during the second act. My heart was in my throat during “Burn.” And then I was very much blinking back tears during the finale.
I really can’t say enough about how extraordinary the staging and choreography is for this musical. I’d definitely developed some specific pictures of certain songs in my head after listening to the soundtrack so much over the past few months. It’s all put together a little less conventionally than one might expect, but it works beautifully. (Sorry Leslie, but I’ve changed my mind. Lets actually give the choreographer his award.)
In summary, GUH!
