Welcome To The Bitchery

So--just watched the first episode of Girls...

...And I want to poll the GT, since Jez is sort of known for talking about this show a lot, how much do the characters develop? As in, cease to be like they are now. I'm the same age as the characters and in a similar life situation, but the only person I could relate to in this episode was Lena Dunham's mother.*

On the one hand, I'd like to watch the show as it's been recommended by some of my friends, and I like to be semi-informed about what the kids are doing these days. On the other hand, I'm a grumpy curmudgeon who doesn't want to watch a show about people whine all the time.

I could see myself getting into it if the characters undergo some transformations and develop (not necessarily for the better, I just like complex characterization), but I don't have a feel for what kind of show it is yet.

Thoughts? Should I stick with it?

*Loved her in Freaks and Geeks, too. If more Apatow cast members show up, that could be another plus.
