"So why are you still single?"
Every time I'm asked any variation of this question, I get a bit of stank face, but I'm never ever sure why. I can't pinpoint why it's insulting and a giant put off. Is it sexist? It's something not right, that's for sure. It feels very marginalizing as a question. I almost want to call it 'negging' though I don't know enough about that particular line of pick'em ups to call it such.
You know what I've realized in my experience of trying to answer that? (Because we usually do try to answer it somehow.) There is an unstated second half in that question. That there must be something so very wrong about us that we must keep it hidden and are out to deceive the world with our pedestal topping selves.
