Using computer tech analyzing old silent movies, seeing incredibly minute movements in the objects, hashing it through a bunch of filters, combining the vibrations of all the objects in the film they can recreate what was being said.

As a test, they video-taped a conversation and, separately, recorded the conversation then did their magic on the tape, compared it to the audio and thought they must have mixed up the sources as they were identical.

Now, imagine some ancient Egyptian glass maker etching a line from the top of the object to the bottom while chatting with one of his neighbors - it would be a recording of a life segment.
