I don't know about where YOU guys are, but the CBC is just constantly publishing new little personal tidbits about the last communications from those poor kids on that ferry. While I think those little things would kill me me no matter what, I teach high school, and I can just so so easily picture any one of my students sending those texts. The fear and confusion in those messages just destroys me every time.

First they published a whole bunch of text message exchanges between children on the boat and their family members, which were written when the kids were beginning to suspect they weren't going to make it. I made the stupid fucking mistake of reading those while I was actually at work.

And now? Now? There is a video on the site that a kid recorded as the ship was sinking. How did they get it? When they recovered his body. I read the summary and had to not only close the tab but walk away from my computer. But the CBC has provided a transcript and video clips for everyone's reading and viewing pleasure!

Why???!?! Why are we doing this? I'm so torn, because it's often the families that are releasing these things, and they want others to know the pain and loss that they are feeling, and they are desperate for answers, for closure, for some sign that these deaths will not go unnoticed or unmourned. But then, on the other hand... oh god, my feels.
