Welcome To The Bitchery

I've managed to not bite my nails for over a month. I've managed to file them into an okay shape. My cuticles are all smooth and stuff too. (Ish . . . I've got a scab where I stabbed myself with a thorn in the garden.) But, now suddenly I have these hard things getting in my way when I type! I'm accidentally scratching my eye when I wipe my face! How do you do this?

I'm ready to shorten them, even if they probably are "short" for normal people. Emery board? Glass file? (I splurged and bought myself one last week because Da Innernet said it was the better thing to use as well as telling me to only file in one direction.) Clippers?

I have a clear base coat/top coat on currently. Do I file with polish on or remove and then file? Is there a right or wrong way to use nail polish remover?

Seriously guys, how do I manage these rigid things attached to the ends of my phalanges? Help!
