The South LA shelter supervisor just called to let me know that the dog's owners were picking her up as we spoke. Apparently they were having some work done to their house nearly a year ago, and she got out when the workmen left the gate open, and they've been looking for her ever since.

The supervisor said the owners were both crying and the dog was clearly overjoyed, showing more life than the entire time she's been there. So she's back with people who love her, and whom she knows and loves, and I, quite embarrassingly, can't stop crying at my desk, but it's such a happy kind of crying! I'm so overjoyed that she not only has a home, she has one where she will immediately feel safe and loved. Hooray for happy endings for suffering puppies!
